Halibut Fishing in the
Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby

The Captain's Prize

For 2007 the Captain's Prize of $3,724 goes to Capt. Mike Manns

The Captains Prize It is the Derby policy that the Captain's Prize be given to a Charter Captain. Since the first place prize fish was caught on a private boat, the Captain's Prize goes to the Charter Captain of the boat that catches the second largest fish.

Daniel Prisaznuk fishing on the Arctic Addiction, caught the second largest halibut during the 2007 Derby, weighing in at 340.6 lbs. This fish won Captain Mike Manns the Captain's Prize.

To win this prize you must be the licensed captain of the boat that lands the Homer Halibut Derby jackpot prize. The captain must be a licensed skipper and be a member of the Chamber of Commerce or an employee of a Chamber member. The captain's prize is based on the number of derby tickets sold. $.25 cents of every ticket sold will become the Captain's Prize. This is estimated at $4,000 based on previous year's ticket sales.
