Halibut Fishing in the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby

The 2013 Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby is under way and we have our first fish on the board and our first tagged fish caught.

Remember anglers, Homer has a two fish per day per person halibut catch limit!!

Janet Baldauf of Homer, AK has the first fish on the board in the 2013 Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby. Janet's fish, which is also a tagged fish, weighed in at 10 lbs. This tagged fish was caught on May 19th while Janet was fishing with Captain Pete's Alaskan Experience with Captain Pete Wedin aboard the "Julia Lynn".

Did Janet catch the $50,000 GCI sponsored fish or the Stanley Ford F-150 truck, or maybe a $10,000 tagged fish? We won't know the answer to that question until the Derby ends on September 15.

There were also two other tagged fish caught, one prior to the Derby start date and one where the angler did not want to buy a derby ticket!! So remember, buy those derby tickets!

The Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby is an annual event, running from May 15 to September 15 each year. Tickets are $10.
