Released Fish Prizes

The Homer Halibut Derby "Released Fish" Prize recognizes anglers who choose to release a fish of significant breeding potential. Larger halibut produce more viable eggs than smaller halibut! Any angler who catches and releases a halibut over 50 lbs, and possesses a valid derby ticket for the day, qualifies for a $1,000 cash drawing at the end of each month and a season long drawing for a prize of $5,000. Refer to the Derby Rules page. Catch and release is very popular with anglers who value a natural resource and choose not to take home a large halibut.
