Tagged Fish For Cash! |

Each year numerous businesses sponsor a TAGGED
FISH that is worth a designated cash value if caught by an angler with
a valid derby ticket. In April the sponsors get together on board charter
boats and go out on a "Tagging Cruise" and literally catch, tag and
release the halibut. The committee uses official tags issued by the IPHC
(International Pacific Halibut Commission). When anglers fishing in the
derby are lucky enough to catch one of these many tagged fish, it could
win them $500, $1,000 or even $10,000! If you catch a tagged fish
in the derby, you must leave the tag unaltered in the fish, and bring the
entire fish with tag still in place and your derby ticket to derby
headquarters on the day you catch it (catch our derby rules page for
complete details). All the derby tags are dated with the year, so you’ll
know immediately if the fish is one from the current year derby or not. A
tagged fish from a previous year will just win you good eating and a
souvenir derby hat. |
